The impacts of COVID-19 on the care of individuals with noncommunicable diseases (NCDs)

The COVID-19 pandemic has disrupted healthcare worldwide. A recent study aims to identify opportunities to improve the provision of healthcare during the current pandemic and in future healthcare emergencies in countries with a high burden of noncommunicable diseases (NCDs). A survey of front-line healthcare workers indicates both an adverse and positive impact on their care of individuals by the public healthcare measures imposed. The findings reiterate the need to ensure continuity of care for NCDs as part of pandemic preparedness to limit the exacerbation of chronic conditions.
