Study to adapt US app to help NZ’ers manage alcohol abuse

Alcohol abuse significantly increases a person’s risk of physical, mental and emotional harm. It can also negatively impact upon families and communities. Although there are beneficial and cost-effective interventions available from a number of sources to support people who are drinking at harmful levels, few drinkers receive help to reduce their alcohol consumption. OLA-ORA Photo Competition

OL@-OR@ is a culturally tailored, personalised, mobile-phone delivered (mHealth) healthy lifestyle support programme for Māori and Pasifika in New Zealand. Partnering with Māori and Pacific leaders and communities is an important part of the programme’s design.

HRC NZ-US Enabling Grant Awarded

Robyn Whittaker has been awarded a Health Research Council (HRC) International Relationships Fund - NZ-US enabling grant. The grant is to enable the design, development and evaluation of a family-based technology-supported childhood obesity prevention programme, particularly for indigenous and priority population groups in NZ, the US, and countries/territories in the Pacific region of interest to the US and NZ.
